Top 5 all-time Minnesota Timberwolves blocks leaders

Kevin Garnett sits atop the Minnesota Timberwolves’ all-time blocks list.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have won one Northwest Division title and have yet to win an NBA championship over the course of their 37-year history. We’ll learn more about the Hall of Famer at the top of this list, along with three active players still adding to their career swat totals.

1.

Kevin Garnett

– 1,590 blocks

Garnett spent the first twelve seasons of his legendary career in Minnesota after the organization selected him with the No. 5 overall pick in the

1995 NBA Draft

. He appeared in 80 games (43 starts) as a rookie in 1995-96, and compiled averages of 10.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.6 blocks. Over the next 11 years, Garnett established himself as one of the toughest defenders in the league while growing his offensive repertoire. He blocked at least 1.4 shots and swiped 1.1 steals per contest in every season through 2006-07, his final full campaign with the Wolves before being traded to the Boston Celtics, and poured in 20.8 ppg or more from 1998-07. During that 12-year stretch, Garnett was a 10-time All-Star, eight-time All-NBA honoree, eight-time All-Defensive member, won four rebounding titles, and was named

the 2004 MVP

. He tallied a career-high 24.2 ppg, 13.9 rpg and 2.2 bpg with 5.0 apg and 1.5 spg while leading the league in made field goals (9.8) in 2003-04.

Garnett went on to earn his lone

Defensive Player of the Year

trophy and helped the Celtics win the NBA championship in his debut with the franchise in 2007-08. He played six seasons in Boston and one and a half with the Brooklyn Nets before returning to and ultimately retiring as a member of the Timberwolves in 2016. Across 970 games over 14 combined seasons in Minnesota, Garnett registered 19.8 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.4 spg and 1.6 bpg in 37.3 minutes. Garnett was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020 as a 15-time All-Star, nine-time All-NBA and 12-time All-Defensive selection, and was voted to the NBA’s

75th Anniversary Team

in 2021.

Karl-Anthony Towns

– 721 blocks

Minnesota took Towns with the No. 1 overall pick in the

2015 NBA Draft

, where the 7-footer would go on to suit up for nine full seasons until being traded to the New York Knicks ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Towns collected less than half the total blocks as Garnett during his stint with the Wolves, but he still sits comfortably in second on their all-time list. He was spectacular as a rookie, posting 18.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.7 steals and a career-best 1.7 blocks across all 82 appearances, earning the New Jersey native the

Rookie of the Year

award. Towns averaged at least 1.1 bpg over his first six seasons as a pro, and although he hasn’t swatted more than one shot a night since 2022, his defense and presence was a major factor in the Knicks winning their first championship in 53 years in 2026. In 573 outings (all starts) in Minnesota, Towns averaged 22.9 ppg, 10.8 rpg, 3.2 apg, 0.8 spg and 1.3 bpg, and he was a four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection.

Gorgui Dieng

– 489 blocks

Dieng holds the third spot on Minnesota’s list, but he’ll almost certainly be leapfrogged at some point during the 2026-27 campaign. Injuries played a large role in slowing him down, as Dieng never appeared in more than 44 contests in a single season following his trade to the Memphis Grizzlies midway through 2019-20. Dieng did all of his damage with the Wolves between 2013-14 and 2020, where he suited up for 498 of his 628 career games as a pro. Perhaps his strongest outing came as a sophomore in 2014-15, when he put up 9.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals and a career-best 1.7 blocks. Dieng averaged 7.9 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.4 apg, 0.8 spg and 1.0 bpg in Minnesota. He also played for the Atlanta Hawks and San Antonio Spurs before retiring in 2023 at age 33.

Rudy Gobert

– 485 blocks

Gobert is one of just three players in the history of the NBA to win four Defensive Player of the Year trophies. Three of his awards came as a member of the Utah Jazz, where Gobert spent the first nine years of his professional tenure, but he’s brought the same defensive masterclass across his four seasons in Minnesota.

Gobert has rejected at least 1.4 shots per game with the Timberwolves, earning his most recent DPOY and All-Defensive First Team nominations in 2024 with 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 2.1 blocks in 76 outings. He’s averaged 12.6 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 1.5 apg, 0.8 spg and 1.6 bpg in 294 appearances for Minnesota, and he will no doubt move into third on the organization’s all-time list at some point during the 2026-27 campaign. Gobert is a three-time All-Star, the 2021-22 rebounding champ, the 2016-17 blocks champ (2.6), four-time All-NBA and nine-time All-Defensive selection over the course of his 13-year career.

Naz Reid

– 445 blocks

Reid had his opportunity to rise up this list cut short following

his trade to the Charlotte Hornets

ahead of the 2026-27 season.

In just 21.7 minutes per game, Reid averaged 11.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.9 blocks over his seven seasons in Minnesota. He notched a career-high 1.1 bpg during his sophomore campaign in 2020-21, and won Sixth Man of the Year in 2024 after putting up 13.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.3 apg, 0.8 spg and 0.9 bpg across 81 outings (14 starts). Reid will look to climb Charlotte’s history books as a potential full-season starter for the first time as a pro.
