Serie A | Roma 2-2 Inter: Another epic comeback for Scudetto battle

Inter completed another comeback from 2-0 down, this time for the exciting 2-2 draw, as Lautaro Martinez wiped out the Manu Koné brace to keep them joint top with Roma.
This was a top of the table clash between the only two teams with a perfect record. The Giallorossi had a full squad to choose from, picking summer signings Leonardo Balerdi and Nahuel Molina, with Donyell Malen scoring six goals in four Serie A games. Notably, Wesley was on the right against Federico Dimarco, who was back to full fitness, and Molina the left. Hakan Calhanoglu, John Stones and Djed Spence were injured for Inter.
There was a minute’s silence before kick-off and the Nerazzurri wore black armbands following the death of club legend Sandro Mazzola late last night, aged 83.

Inter had gone 2-0 down in their last three competitive games and conceded early again. Molina nodded down the Paulo Dybala cross at the back post, Manu Koné let it bounce and fired in first-time from 10 yards through Manuel Akanji’s legs. The Nerazzurri had tried so hard to buy the France international in recent months, but he struck against them.

Dybala turned a half-volley over from the mistaken Dimarco interception, then drilled wide from distance, but Inter’s first real chance came on 25 minutes with Yann Bisseck shrugging off Matias Soulé to go clear, denied by Mile Svilar rushing off his line.
Lautaro Martinez might’ve been offside anyway, but came sliding in to meet the Dimarco low cross that Svilar fingertipped just beyond the striker.
Alessandro Bastoni thumped the near post from a tricky angle on the Curtis Jones back-heel flick, but Roma doubled their lead instead.
The offside flag had gone up when Dybala’s cross was flicked on by Gianluca Mancini for Koné to turn in at the back post, but VAR confirmed that the France international was behind the line of the ball and therefore the goal was valid.

It was the fourth game in a row between Serie A and the Champions League with Inter trailing 2-0. They came back to win two of those and got back into the game within 60 seconds of the restart at the Olimpico.
Thuram intercepted a wayward Bryan Cristante pass in midfield and got down the left on the counter, then pulled it back low for Lautaro Martinez to sweep in first-time from 12 yards.
Inter looked a different team in the second half, Thuram’s back-heel flick on a low Carlos Augusto roll across dribbling just wide of the near post.
Balerdi was visibly exhausted and made way for Daniele Ghilardi, but Josep Martinez made a huge save when using his face to parry the Malen control and turn from close range on a corner.

Svilar also got down well to palm away the Andy Diouf strike from distance, but Inter eventually battered down the Roma defences to complete yet another comeback from 2-0 down.
On the corner, Svilar made an extraordinary save on Thuram’s header, with Lautaro Martinez nodding the rebound onto the underside of the crossbar. The move continued, Bisseck knocking on the cross for Lautaro Martinez, who controlled with his thigh before smashing in on the volley from seven yards.
Inter threatened turning it around completely on the counter when Petar Sucic knocked down a long Barella ball for Thuram, who spotted Svilar off his line and drilled just wide of the open goal.
