Conor Coady retires from football at 33

Conor Coady has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 33, confirming the decision in a post on Instagram.
The former England defender made 503 senior appearances across eight clubs during his career, having represented Liverpool, Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Wolves, Everton, Leicester City, Wrexham and Charlton Athletic.
Coady earned 10 caps for England and was part of the squads for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
He enjoyed the most successful spell of his career at Wolves, making 317 appearances and scoring seven goals. As captain, he helped the club secure consecutive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League and reach the Europa League quarter-finals after winning promotion in 2018.
His final professional appearance came on 2 May, when Charlton suffered a 3-1 defeat to Swansea. He had previously left Wrexham by mutual consent on 31 August.
Since stepping away from playing, Coady has become a co-host of The Football Dugout podcast alongside Mark Chapman. He has also returned to Liverpool, where he is working with the club's Under-21s coaching staff alongside Jay Spearing and Rob Page.
