Newcastle United vs Everton – Match preview and team news

Newcastle United host Everton in a crucial Premier League match at St James’ Park on Monday.
It is a rapid rematch from the EFL Cup fourth round, where David Moyes’s Everton beat Matthias Jaissle’s Newcastle 3-1 on Thursday to reach the quarter-finals, James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry scoring inside 69 minutes before Dan Burn’s late consolation. Despite that cup exit, Newcastle sit one point above Everton in the Premier League table after Monday’s hosts bounced back from three defeats in four matches with a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace last time out.
Newcastle’s defensive form remains a concern: only Chelsea have conceded more among the division’s top 10 sides, and Jaissle’s men are yet to keep a clean sheet at St James’ Park in any competition this season. Everton, meanwhile, have lost their last two matches without scoring, including Saturday’s defeat at Arsenal, and are still without an away win in the league this season. Everton have won three of their last four meetings with Newcastle, though the Magpies’ only victory in that span came via a 4-1 rout at Hill Dickinson Stadium last November.

Team news
Newcastle United
Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen remain unavailable through injury, while Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Will Osula and Lewis Miley are all doubts. Osula twisted his ankle before being substituted in midweek, and Yoane Wissa is set to deputise if the forward is unable to feature.
Everton
Everton have no injury absentees, though Jack Grealish’s involvement remains in doubt after he was omitted from the squad in midweek for allegedly missing a training session, and Jarrad Branthwaite is working through concussion protocols. Moyes is confident Branthwaite will be available in time for kick-off.
Form
Newcastle have won just one of their four Premier League home matches this season, and of the division’s top-half sides, only Chelsea have a worse defensive record than their 14 goals conceded in eight rounds.
Everton remain without an away win in the Premier League this season, drawing three and losing one of their opening four matches on the road, a run that continued with Saturday’s defeat at Arsenal.
Predicted lineups
Newcastle United possible starting XI (4-2-3-1): Hornicek; Dedic, Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Joelinton, Gonzalez; Murphy, Willock, Barnes; Wissa
Everton possible starting XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Rohl, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Hackney, Garner; Dibling, Dewsbury-Hall, George; Barry
