5 Wolves players who'll surely leave in January ft Jackson Tchatchoua

After a mixed start to the season, Wolves will surely be looking towards the January transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a mixed start since returning to the Championship.

The Old Gold have picked up 11 points in six, leaving them seventh in the standings with a game in hand on five of the six sides ahead of them.

Wolves sit third for goals scored in the league, with 14 to their name, though they've conceded too many at the other end, with only four sides outside the bottom six conceding fewer than the 10 let in by Cesar Peixoto's side.

Last time out, Wolves sealed a late 1-0 win against Sheffield United, building some momentum ahead of the upcoming Black Country derby after the recent slips against West Ham and Birmingham.

After dropping down from the Premier League last term, the immediate ambition is to climb back to the top flight, and the January transfer window could be imperative when that goal is considered.

With this in mind, Football League World takes an early look at what the start of 2027 could look like on the departures front.

Jackson Tchatchoua

Jackson Tchatchoua has endured a torrid time at Wolves since his move from Hellas Verona in the summer of 2025.

While he has bags of pace, the right-back has continued to look out of place in the Premier League, and that hasn't changed in the second tier.

With his confidence shot to pieces, things got even worse for the Cameroonian against Birmingham recently, with his attempted pass back to Jose Sa finding his own net in the 2-2 draw at St Andrew's.

Wolves supporters were delighted to welcome back Kieran Trippier against Sheffield United, who made a big impact towards the end, and will naturally take his spot back.

But given his age, he cannot start every week, and doubts remain about whether Tchatchoua can deputise at the level required to fight for promotion.

If Wolves' ambition is there in January, the right-back position will be a priority, with Tchatchoua potentially going the other way and calling time on what has been a poor spell at Molineux.

Toti Gomes would have expected more in the Championship, and fans expected more of him.

Starting the season as captain, the centre-back would start each of Wolves' opening four league games, but he has since seen just 20 minutes of action since Ladislav Krejci's return to the squad after the transfer window.

Toti had become a rotation player under Rob Edwards last term, but whether he will accept the same role in the Championship is a different question. Wolves themselves may see January as the right time to cash in and strengthen the depth of what has been a leaky backline.

If a replacement is secured, now might be the right time for a move, after years as a solid servant in the Midlands.

Tawanda Chirewa

Introduced to the fold by Gary O'Neil back in the 2023/24 season, Tawanda Chirewa has not been able to get going as a first-team player at Wolves.

After a failed loan spell at Barnsley in the second half of last season, he returned to Molineux over the summer, still looking to kickstart his career as a senior professional.

However, he has seen just 28 minutes in the league this term, and there is no realistic future for him either on the wing or in the attacking midfield role nailed down by Fer Lopez.

Chirewa made 23 appearances for Derby and Huddersfield in the 2024/25 season - the most of his career thus far.

As a result, Wolves will likely assess options across the pyramid, with a future at the club highly unlikely for the Zimbabwean.

Enso Gonzalez

Enso Gonzalez joined Wolves in 2023 and has struggled with injuries and to establish himself at senior level.

At 21, the Paraguayan could still have a bright future, though he has made just one appearance for the senior team in the Black Country since his move in 2023.

He needs regular football, and a move away is likely to give him that, with the Express & Star reporting in the latter stages of the summer window that the winger could have been on the move.

However, this did not come to fruition for the wideman, who will wonder what could have been if not for the injuries suffered during his time at Wolves.

Tom Edozie

In a dismal 2025/26 season for Wolves, Tom Edozie was at the heart of one of very few positive moments, with the youngster netting a last-minute equaliser against Arsenal back in February.

Towards the end of the season, the 20-year-old would become a regular part of the matchday squad, but that has not been the case in the Championship.

After sitting on the bench on opening night against Blackburn, Edozie has not made the squad since then and is reaching an age where he needs to progress beyond youth football, having made almost 100 appearances at Under-18 and Under-21 level for Wolves.
