'Might think I'm crazy': Michael Carrick sends Manchester United message amid uncertain future

Red Devils boss was spared the sack last week

Michael Carrick does not feel like his time as Manchester United manager is running out.

The under-fire head coach has overseen a run of nine straight games without a victory this term, and his United side sit 17th in the Premier League after their worst start to a campaign in 40 years.

The Red Devils have won just once in the league all season, with their other victory coming in the Champions League against minnows Sabah.

On the continent, they were handed hefty defeats by Atletico Madrid and Como, with the latter resulting in Carrick apologising to the travelling supporters, raising his hands in acknowledgement.

The writing seemed to be on the wall for the former midfielder after a heavy 3-0 demolition at home by Bournemouth, who ran riot at a tempestuous Old Trafford.

It seemed as though Carrick was waving goodbye to the United fans as he walked off the pitch, and the home faithful turned on the players with relentless booing at the full-time whistle as they trudged off.

United were beaten again last weekend as Chelsea secured a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, with Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer on the scoresheet for Xabi Alonso’s Blues.

Lisandro Martinez, who hit the headline for his open criticism of the club’s hierarchy following the loss at Atletico Madrid in October, was sent off in west London and Carrick did not acknowledge the centre-back as he made his way back to the dressing room.

Despite all that, Carrick does not feel like he is a “coach with two games left”, after it was reported that the club had spared him the sack, seeking to reassess his position during the November international break.

“Not at all,” he said on Monday.

“You you never know what is going to happen in the future, but that doesn't change the way I feel. I can't wait for the agme tomorrow. You might think I'm crazy with the results we've had, but I can't wait for it."

United take on Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday before a home encounter with Aston Villa at the weekend.
