Manchester United fans are being urged not to spend money inside Old Trafford on Sunday, with another protest being staged against the club's owners.

United host Aston Villa in the Premier League desperate for a result before a potentially decisive two-week international break for Michael Carrick. With United making a dreadful start to the campaign on the pitch, anger at the way the club is run has bubbled up off it once more.

Tuesday brought a much-needed morale-boosting comeback win over Roma, but it also saw fans make their feelings towards the Glazer family and Sir Jim Ratcliffe clear. Three supporters were arrested for throwing tennis balls onto the pitch in a protest which saw play halted.

The match also saw green and gold balloons released and chants aimed at the Glazers and INEOS chief Ratcliffe sung. Now United fan groups are keen to keep the momentum up for Sunday's game against Villa.

Groups including Reclaim the Stretford End, The 1958, The Red Army, Manchester United Youth Supporters’ Club, South Stand United and Retro Reds have come together to mobilise fans. The 'Reclaim our colours' protests asks fans not to buy booze inside Old Trafford and release balloons when the players come out to warm up pre-match.

Its stated gripes are: the ownership, the club's massive debt, the decision to demolish Old Trafford to build a new 100,000-seater stadium, the "disrespect" shown to fans, the erosion of match-going culture and the general "decline in standards" around United.

Another graphic being circulated on social media calls for fans to leave the stadium in the 21st minute - a nod to the 21 years of Glazer ownership.

Supporters have been urged to respect the minute's silence before kick-off for Remembrance Sunday. But the 4.30pm kick-off, which will be live on Sky Sports, will be played amid a ferocious atmosphere at Old Trafford.

The match is an extremely important one for United, who go into the weekend sitting 17th in the Premier League table, outside of the relegation zone on goal difference. United are on their worst start to a league campaign since 1986 and have won just one of their nine matches so far.

Despite snapping a nine-match winless streak in mid-week, Carrick remains under huge pressure. Club chiefs Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox have considered possible replacements for the 45-year-old, with Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte sounded out.

Carrick kept his job in the wake of the 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth, but knows defeat on Sunday could spell the end of his time as manager, with the international break giving time for a replacement to be found.
